Training Rides

Let's get ready to ride

Whether you’re riding the stationary ride, 10-mile route, 80-mile route, or anything in between, it’s important to get your body ready for ride day. LOWVELO is offering training rides every week through October to help make sure you’re prepared. Let’s ride!

Tuesday night training rides

This ride hosted by Charleston Beer Riders departs from Edmund’s Oast Brewery every Tuesday evening. Gather with bikes in the courtyard by 6 p.m.

Please be sure to have helmets, lights, water and any basic tools and tubes you’ll need for repairs. Any registered riders who bring a friend that signs up for LOWVELO will receive a $25 fundraising credit – because we know a guy!

There are three route options:
  • Our beginner ride is great for newbies because you ride around Hampton Park at your own pace. Each loop is one mile and riders can complete as many as possible in an hour.
  • The intermediate ride (15-17 mph) goes to Sullivan’s Island and back, a 24-mile roundtrip ride.

  • Advanced riders (19-21 mph) will depart to Sullivan’s Island and loop the perimeter and back for a 27-mile ride.

Refreshments are available for purchase at Edmund’s Oast Brewing after the ride.

Thursday night stationary rides

stationary cycling class

This weekly stationary training ride is in partnership with the MUSC Wellness Center every Thursday evening at 6 p.m. The training ride is offered at no cost to all Wellness Center members. For those who are not Wellness Center members, please register here to get your first class for free. Any future classes will be available at the discounted rate of $15.

The Wellness Center’s Brooke O’Neill will focus on helping you unlock your “inner athlete” and remind you it’s a privilege to move your bodies. Brooke promises you will leave her class feeling stronger than you did upon entering and will have additional gratitude for the things your body can do.
